Dr. Thannum from a young age knew her passion for helping animals after seeing her father, a veterinarian, help so many. Her father instilled many of her current values and ethics that she carries with her in her personal and professional life. Driven to help as many animals and families as she could, Dr. Thannum went to and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Veterinary Medicine, leaving with her dream to open her own clinic stronger than ever. However, it was at her post-grad internship that Dr. Thannum found her passion for internal medicine and surgery. Eventually, after years of tireless work she was able to purchase Extra Care Animal Hospital in 2004 fulfilling her life-long dream. The hard work did not stop for Dr. Thannum as she took on more staff, hiring only those she would trust her own pet's care with. Through this process she was able to build a business that provides a truly exception standard of care to all that walk through our door, client and patients alike. Her continuous goal for excellence has allowed Extra Care to stand strong for 20+ years, helping countless pets, families and our community; while also establishing loyal clientele that have been with us since we opened our doors and without whom we would not have succeeded.
In the summer of 2024 Extra Care welcomed to our staff Dr. Sandra Buckweitz to our staff. Coming from a background of diverse veterinary experience Dr. Buckweitz has taught veterinary students, helped research West Nile Virus, and worked in general practice, critical care, and emergency veterinary care. Constantly eager to learn more about veterinary medicine, Dr. Buckweitz is currently working toward certification in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Since her beginning here, she has opened our staff's eyes as well as our client's to the wonders of alternative medicine. After taking courses in herbal integration she has successfully been using herbals as medical treatment for many patients. 
Always striving for greatness, success, and healing, Dr. Thannum, Dr. Buckweitz, and out entire Extra Care staff have helped numerous patients and come to work everyday looking forward to helping more.
