I have wanted to be a veterinarian since I was a child. My father was a vet and he instilled in me many of the values and ethics that I have today. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. From there I completed a 15 month internship at Hollywood Animal Hospital in Hollywood, FL. It is at that time that my passion for internal medicine and surgery began. I went into private practice as an associate for 8 years. I then fulfilled my life long dream of owning my own practice when I bought Extra Care Animal Hospital in May of 2004. I am so proud of my staff and the high quality of medicine and surgery that we are able to offer to our patients.
Interests outside of my practice include spending time will ALL of my pets. I have 3 cats named Bob, Styx, & Melvin, 3 dogs named Teddy, Hudson & Matilda, and a Capuchin monkey named George! I enjoy all sports, especially football, hunting, fishing, and spending time in my yard. |

Sandra Buckweitz

Dr. Sandra Buckweitz (Dr. B) was born and raised in northern New Jersey. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree of Animal Science from the University of Rhode Island, in 1998. She received her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, from Ross University, in 2001. Dr. B completed her clinical year of veterinary school at the University of Missouri, where she developed an interest in anatomic pathology. After graduation, she taught veterinary students and participated in research on West Nile virus. She settled in South Florida in 2003. For 12 years, Dr. B worked at a local general practice where she developed a passion for emergency and critical care. She then transitioned into emergency veterinary care, where she has focused for the last 10 years. While working emergency, she met Dr. Jodi Thannum. Dr B is working toward certification in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine through The Chi University. Her home life is filled with love from her supportive husband, two great kids, two rescued dogs and 2 Sphynx cats. Outside of work, she loves gardening, scuba diving, painting, crafting, listening to music by Rob Thomas and Matchbox twenty, and collecting home goods from Mackenzie-Childs.
